Thursday 27th | Left Suffolk at 5:00 am. Met Mark at Kentford. Drove up to Loch Lomond in convoy via Teebay and Hamilton to Tarbet. B&B, Hotel cabaret with the elderley, Bed. |
Friday 28th | Gordon, Mark, Tim, Maurice and I set out to do a traverse of The Cobbler ala "Mountain Scrambles in Scotland" by Andrew Dempster. Gordon turned back on the way up. One hard move at the start due to going off route a tad. Light rain. A grand scramble. Mark led Maurice on a rope. |
Saturday 29th | Party consisting of: Tim, Mark and I.
Started at Arrochar: up old rail / drift route. A long hot steep ascent to Beinn Narnain (72). Continued via Bealach a' Mhaim to Ben Ime (73). Back via bealach into Allt Coire Grogain and down to Sloy Power Station. Picked up by car and on to Onich via the Clacaigh (beer) and Lochleven Hotel (Fish soup). Martin arrived. Maurice made some more soup. Cottage rather small. |
Sunday 30th | Martin, Mark, Tim, Morris and I.
Climbed Beinn a' Chlachain (74) ala the SMC Munros Book. Walked out with Tim and Maurice to cook Lemon Chicken. Missed out on a swim in Lochain na h~Earba Lost and found wallet in Onich Hotel |
Monday 31st | Martin, Mark, Tim, Morris and I.
Did route up Stob Dubh (Buchaillie Etive Beag) (75) ala SMC Book. Had a swimin the stream on the walk out, also a drink at the Nether Lochaber Hotel then Tim's curry. A very hot day. |
Tueday 1st Wednesday 2nd August |
Martin, Mark, Tim, Morris and I. Started in Glen Etive at Coiletir. A long hot slog up to Ben Starav (76). Maurice turned back Left bags at col and walked out to Beinn nan Aighenan (77) and back. Then to Glas Bheinn Mor(78). and Stob Coir an Albannaich (79). Bivvied overnight on this peak (to keep cool!) A clear warm night. Tracked satellites and watched endless shooting stars. Fantastic!! In the morning climbed Meall nan Eun (80). Swam twice. Had beer and soup in the King's House. Back to Onich for Mark's curry. Another hot day. |
Thursday 3rd | Tim, Maurice and I cycled out of Fort William on "Off Beat" bikes. Morris cycled back again.
Tim and I carried on via the West Highland Way to Kinlochleven and Mamore lodge. Large mamores, beer and soup. Returned via same route. Very hot. Punctured twice on the descent into Fort William. Swam met, Maurice. Dined on Martin's spaghetti. |
Friday 4th | Tim, Mark, Martin, almost Maurice and Me
To show that we are not "baggers" set out to take Maurice up Ledge Route onto the Ben. However at Half way Lochan Maurice decided to go up "Tourist" Path. Glorious day so we continued and climbed Tower Ridge up to the Summit.(Ben Nevis)(Repeat 5) A great scramble. Met Maurice and Gordon on the summit. Very crowded Looked back to watch Martin and Tim rope up across Tower Gap. Carried on via C.M.D. arete to Cairn Mor Dearg (repeat 10) Down and across to Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe (Half Way Lochan) and down to Achintee at a trot. Packed, fish soup, bed. A grand Day. |
